My role in Montreal’s new talk radio station

Steve Kowch blog photoFrom where I sit On The Kowch, I thought it would be fun to talk about my involvement in a project with TTP Media to launch a new radio station in Montreal. This has been a two year long journey for Paul Tietolman, Rajiv Pancholy, Nicolas Tetrault, Jordan Tietolman, Jim Connell, Yves Guerard and myself to get the license.

I got involved because my friend, Suburban columnist and blogger Mike Cohen, introduced me to Paul Tietolman. What Paul thought would be a 10 minute phone call, turned into an hour long discussion about the need for more competition in Montreal’s radio market.

On November 9, 2012 the CRTC granted TTP Media the license to operate its English Montreal news talk radio station on 600 AM. The 600 AM frequency is the home of North America’s first radio station.

I just can’t resist getting involved in starting new media projects like I did with the Daily Express, The Sunday Express, (both in Montreal) The Montreal Daily News, Standard Broadcast News, my consulting company kowchmedia and now a radio station.

From where I sit On The Kowch, there is still a lot of work to be done by the owners before we can start the hiring process. That’s why there have been delays and we’re now looking at a launch sometime in 2016.

Steve Kowch was program director of two of Canada’s largest newstalk radio stations for 14 years
